Grain Bulk Handlers
Limited
is a private company owning and operating a specialised
terminal for handling bulk grain and fertilizer imports.
The terminal is
located at Shimanzi, just outside the port perimeter fence and is linked
by conveyor to Berth No. 3 at Kilindini Port, Mombasa, Kenya. The
terminal's activities include discharge of vessels and delivery of landed
consignments from the Grain Bulk silos or warehouses to the desired
mode of transport either in bulk or bagged form.
The initial idea for investing in a Bulk Grain Handling Terminal was
conceived in 1983 but it materialised in 1998 when government permission
and international financing were obtained to facilitate construction. The
terminal was later commissioned on 14th February 2000 and was officially
launched by His Excellency President Daniel Arap Moi on 15th March 2000.
